Pendle Paddlers

The Great Glen Canoe Trail

The Great Glen Canoe Trail,

29th April to 3rd May 2017

Fort William to Inverness because, as the guidance says, “It is normally easier to paddle the Trail from Fort William in the west to Inverness in the east with the prevailing wind behind you.” Hmmmm…..

…but somehow or another we did it. Got the T-shirt and earned the stripes to go on it.There was blood (from the blisters), sweat (buckets) and tears (but only a couple). There were plenty of laughs too – or was it hysteria? One thing we all agreed on was that it was an epic. We composed a little ditty along the way – a song of the paddle, to the tune of ‘The 12 Days of Christmas.’ The last verse goes like this….

On the 12th bit of paddling the Canoe Trail gave to me:

12 mph winds

11 wooden paddles

10+ blue barrels

90 big waves

8 stinky paddlers

7 faithful canoes

6 redundant canoe sails

5 Portages

4 days of paddling

3 Scottish lochs

2 compost toilets

And ZERO prevailing winds.
