Pendle Paddlers

Aqueducts and Tunnels on the Llangollen canal Mar 19

A March trip along the Llangollen Canal across a World heritage site the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, 2 Tunnels and the Chirk Aqueduct and then back again.

High winds made the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct a challenge especially to the high sides canoes making the non tow path side edge look very low, especially with the 35m drop. All safely across we set off in search of our next landmark tunnel 1, wondering whether the wind would make the full trip too much effort. A quick portage around the raising road bridge, and luckily we were now sheltered from the wind, and actually the sun came out.

Through the next 2 tunnels, very tame in comparison to the Foulridge one - you can see the end!, and we made it to the Chirk Aqueduct quickly across and it was turnaround and back the way we came.
