Young People paddling
Pendle Paddlers have managed to grow our Young people section in recent years, and recognise that this is a very important aspect of our future, so are active in promoted more activities for this section and for other young people in the area.
NEW EQUIPMENT WORKSHOPS
Pendle Paddlers were recently lucky to receive a grant from the Shepherds Street Trust to assist in increasing our fleet of Canoes, to enable us to offer more opportunities for young people and youth groups to experience our great sport.
As part of this we said it was important for our young people to assist in fitting out our new Canoes with buoyancy bags, lacing etc and learning the trade.
So middle of October we held a workshop fitting out our new Canoes purchased from @GoKayakingNorthWest in Runcorn.
It was a very productive afternoon lots of repairs completed, grass strimmed, new canoe paddles added to the store and now 2 brand new canoes water ready.
In additional we also purchased 2 new playboats to add to existing boats we have this give us the opportunity to provide more opportunities for people to try out this element of our sport, for those who like being upside down a lot.
YOUNG RIVER GROUPS
The Cumbrian Regional Development Team of British Canoeing run regular sessions to increase the opportunities for young people to get out on White Water rivers more frequently and for some clubs that dont have the coaches/leaders to be able to offer this.
Pendle Paddlers are linked into this group, and a number of young people take up these opportunities to increase their skills and experiences on top of our Club sessions. We have had recent trips to the International White Water Centre at the Tees Barrage, and on the Rivers Lune and Washburn.
Pendle Paddlers are now active in trying to expand this opportunity into the North West region, working with both the North West and Cumbrian Regional Development Teams.
NEXT STEPS
We are now looking into increasing our number of coaches/leaders and our young people will be included in this development plan, we are currently investigating grant options to support this.
